100PLUS Continue to Sponsor White Jersey for the Best Malaysian Rider

KUALA LUMPUR (20 June 2013) – 100PLUS, the country’s No. 1 isotonic drink, has once again come forward in supporting Malaysia’s oldest cycling race series to sponsor the white jersey for the best Malaysian rider in the Jelajah 1 Malaysia next week.

And defending champion Adiq Husainie Othman is expected to have a tough time for the race slated for 26-30 June 2013, where he will be up for the challenge against Terengganu Cycling Team’s duo of Hariff and Zamri Salleh alongside Anuar Manan of Team Baku Synergy Project.

Dato' Naim Mohamad, the chief executive officer of Jelajah 1Malaysia, added that Haidar Anuawar and Loh Sea Keong of Team OCBC will also be out for the glory to be named the best-ranked Malaysian rider and the right to wear the white jersey sponsored by 100PLUS.

And with this year’s race being more of a flat run to the south without much climb; it will make things a little harder for Adiq Husainie who is more attuned to the demands of a hill ascent.

"The truth is that it is tough to make predictions this year as other than the six aforementioned riders, there are at least another 50 in the wings able to deliver an upset,” said Dato’ Naim, at the handing over of the 100PLUS sponsorship of the white jersey press conference this afternoon.

Added Ms Cariessa Goh, the Corporate Affairs Manager at F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd: “we are proud to once again be given the opportunity to be part of Malaysia’s oldest cycling race series. And with Dato’ Naim at the helm, we are sure that this year’s race will be as exciting as ever.”

Dato’ Naim added that the Malaysian riders taking part in this year’s race should take this opportunity to better themselves in the race which has been rated 2.2 by the UCI.

Based on the confirmed list of participants Dato’ Naim, who is also the deputy president of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), added that other than Malaysian riders, there are also participants from 18 nationalities forming the peloton.

And they are from Indonesia, Australia, Ukraine, Spain, Singapore, Thailand, Denmark, Holland, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Bahrain and USA.

In the meantime, Dato’ Naim said that in as far as the looming threat of haze was concerned, the Technical Committee of the Jelajah Malaysia and also President Commissaire Jamaluddin Mahmood, will take the appropriate measures in ensuring the safety of the riders.

And depending on the weather report, appropriate changes to the route can be made some 24 hours before the start of the day’s stage.

"Previously, we were faced with heavy rain and also flooding, but we managed to overcome these issues and it did not affect the race at all,” added Dato’ Naim. “But we are confident that the haze situation will improve before the race begins next week.”

The Jelajah 1Malaysia will begin on 26 June with Stage One from MSN Complex to Rembau (187.7km); Stage Two from Rembau to Batu Pahat (197.6km); Stage Three from Batu Pahat to Pontian (94.7km); Stage Four from Angsana JB Mall to Melaka (206.3km) and Stage Five from Melaka to Putrajaya (169.8km).
