KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation is asking Malay Business Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Syed Ali Al-Attas to explain an allegation that he had tried to buy land and assets belonging to Petronas near KLCC at half the market price.
Gerakan Anti-Penyelewengan Ke-dah chairman Khairul Anuar Ramli said Syed Ali should explain this in a written statement.
"Is it true that he had pressured the Petronas president to give him priority as the chamber president? We also would like him to verify if there is a third party influencing him to attack Petronas," he said in a text message to the New Straits Times.
He said future meetings and dealings between Syed Ali and Petronas should be witnessed by the police.
"We hope Syed Ali and Petronas can take this advice as we all want transparency."
