Events to mark M'sia-China ties
THE sixth KL Car-Free Morning tomorrow will feature several events to mark the 40th anniversary of Malaysia-China bilateral ties.
It is organised by Malay Traders and Industrialists Association of Malaysia (Perdasama) with support from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), China Enterprise Association of Malaysia (Cenam) and several chambers of commerce.
“The relationship between the governments and businesses in China and Malaysia has been good.
It is high time we enhance the people-to-people relationship through more engagement,” said Perdasama vice-president Datuk Naim Mohamad.
“We hope to increase awareness among Malaysians that our relationship with China is important for the region’s stability and security, as Asia is set to be an economic powerhouse,” he said.
Naim said they were expecting 10,000 people at tomorrow’s event that would take place at the Golden Triangle area from 7am to 9am, with joggers, in-line skaters, skateboarders and cyclists enjoying the car-free roads.
At Dataran Merdeka from 10am to noon, there will be performances by DBKL’s cultural unit, to showcase Malaysian dances and music, local indie bands as well as buskers.
“We also hope to receive participation from a cultural troupe from China,” said Naim.
Artistes from DBKL and the Chinese Embassy will also be performing.
Visitors will also find free health check-ups and nutrition advice from Peak Fitness in Sogo, Kuala Lumpur.
Motorsports enthusiasts can look forward to a superbike stunt show, held with the cooperation of the Sepang International Circuit, from 4.30pm onwards.
Simultaneously from 9am to 11am, there will be a fitness session dubbed the Score Fit Mob, the largest body combat session in Malaysia held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Organised by Mantra Experiential in partnership with Les Mills, the class will be the first of its kind in Malaysia and aims to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle.
The two-day celebration will be kicked off with a friendly golf match between members of Perdasama and Cenam today followed by a business forum to be attended by 200 people.
There will also be a Tattoo Show tonight at Dataran Merdeka to celebrate the 110th anniversary of St John Institution Kuala Lumpur.
The show will be from 8.30pm to 11pm and will feature bands from SJI Naval Cadet Band, Convent Bukit Nanas, St John’s Alumni Pipe Band, Methodist Girl’s School Kuantan and Universiti Teknologi Mara.
